“Jonathan Stone lost his job as a Claremont police officer in 2006 after investigators said he threatened to go on a ‘postal’ shooting spree that included killing his police chief and raping the man’s wife.”
Yesterday, disgraced State Rep. Jon Stone, a favorite Trump surrogate and Kelly Ayotte endorser accused of threatening a shooting spree against law enforcement and having inappropriate relations with a teen girl, filed for reelection in New Hampshire despite calls from the Union Leader’s editorial board and Granite Staters to remove Stone from House committees.
The Trump campaign has refused to cut ties with their longtime ally and campaign surrogate, even after the Claremont City Council removed him from two local committees last month. Kelly Ayotte declined to renounce his endorsement when given the opportunity, and Republican leaders in New Hampshire were called out for giving Stone a pass following the shocking report on his dangerous behavior. Stone’s relationship with Trump goes back nearly a decade, when he first served as the Sullivan County Trump campaign chair, and Stone has spoken on the Trump campaign’s behalf numerous times.
“It’s no surprise that Donald Trump, Kelly Ayotte, and the NH GOP want an extremist like Jon Stone to join them on the Republican ticket this November. Trump, Ayotte, and Republican leadership stood by Stone after allegations emerged that he threatened to kill fellow officers and commit rape and murder; they stood by Stone after Granite Staters learned he had inappropriate relations with a teen girl; and they stood by Stone after Granite Staters called them out. What will it take for Donald Trump, Kelly Ayotte, and the NH GOP to cut ties and condemn Jon Stone’s actions?” said NHDP Chair Ray Buckley.
