Concord, N.H. – This week has been particularly controversial for the new Trump administration, and rather than distancing himself, Governor Sununu has endorsed President Trump’s decisions every step of the way. Trump proudly defended a remarkably unpopular AHCA bill, fired FBI Director Comey on a questionable timetable, and faces 20 attorneys general across the country calling for an independent special counsel to investigate the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.
Yesterday, Sununu doubled down on his support for Trumpcare and signaled that he doesn’t believe the Trump administration has to answer for FBI Director Comey’s firing. Today, New Hampshire became the only state in New England not to join the call for an independent investigation into collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Russian government.
NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement:
“After touring the state with Trump spin master Kellyanne Conway, Governor Sununu has essentially been reading White House talking points. Granite Staters, regardless of party, want to get to the bottom of Russia’s involvement in our election. Tacitly accepting the Comey firing and being the only state in New England not to call for an independent investigation do not inspire confidence in Sununu’s leadership. Until Sununu speaks up against the Trump administration, we can only assume he is acting to back the President, even when it means working against his own constituents.”
