RELEASE: Vice Presidential Aspirations Drove Kelly Ayotte’s Decision to Sign Reckless Iran Letter

The Next Step in Kelly Ayotte’s Quest for the Vice Presidency: An In-Person Audition with Jeb Bush

Concord, N.H. – With Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio signing on to Senate Republicans’ reckless letter to the leaders of Iran – and other GOP presidential hopefuls like Jeb Bush, Rick Perry and Bobby Jindal tripping over themselves to stand with them – it’s clear that Kelly Ayotte’s decision to sign the letter was her latest effort to position herself as a viable Vice Presidential candidate.

The next step in Ayotte’s quest for the Vice Presidency: an in-person audition with Jeb Bush tomorrow.

“It’s a sign of just how backward things are in today’s Republican Party that signing a letter to the leaders of Iran that emboldened our enemies and weakened our country’s foreign policy is how Kelly Ayotte thinks she can position herself as a Vice Presidential running mate,” said New Hampshire Democratic Chair Ray Buckley.

Ayotte’s irresponsible decision to sign the Iran letter fits a dangerous pattern of pandering to her far-right base in order to promote herself as a viable Vice Presidential candidate, including extensive out-of-state political travel and her decision to hold funding for the Department of Homeland Security hostage.

“From holding funding for DHS hostage to signing a letter to the leaders of Iran undermining U.S. policy, Kelly Ayotte has repeatedly played politics with our national security to appease her far-right base and promote herself as a VP candidate. Granite Staters deserve better than a politician who will play games with public safety for a shot at national office,” added Buckley
